Press Officer | Margery Thorogood | Branch: Eton & Windsor BLP | Ward: Castle Without

My name is Margery Thorogood and since our last A.G.M., I have been the Press Officer for Windsor Constituency Labour Party.

Born in London, I moved to Bracknell when it was a developing New Town and so I was familiar with Windsor when growing up. I moved away to study for my first degree and after doing a variety of jobs (including a stint at Mars), I trained to be a teacher progressing to the role of Advisory Teacher working for an Outer London borough.

I re-joined the Labour Party in 2015 when I saw that the changes being made represented a more positive shift in thinking which would challenge the policies of austerity which were affecting so many people so badly. At last I saw that we now had a party where there was hope; hope for a better future where everyone was considered important and not just the few.

I remain an active member of the National Union of Teachers. I am also a founder member of the Save Heatherwood Hospital campaign (it’s not over yet!) and Windsor and Slough Against the Cuts. I am Secretary of Slough and District Trades Council where we support other groups including the People’s Assembly and Unite Against Fascism. I am interested in green issues and climate change and I am an active member of the ASCENT group (Ascot and the Sunnings Environmental Network). I also belong to campaign groups such as Greenpeace, CND and Liberty.

I live in the house where Fred Fuzzens (Labour politician and mayor of Windsor in the 1940s) was born. Outside the Post Office there is a commemorative plaque dedicated to him stating that he ‘…strove for a better Windsor.’ I would like to support this legacy for not only Windsor but the country in making it a better place for everyone.
